The Alpe d'Huez triathlon is one of the most stunning long course events in the world - it's a pure bucket list race for any triathlete which is why we've been there so many times and, based on that hard-won knowledge, have now produced this ultimate Alpe d'Huez triathlon guide for anyone tackling this fabled race who wants to know exactly what they're in for, and exactly how to succeed!
The Alpe d'Huez triathlon course is obviously all about that famous mountain climb on the bike leg, but the race is unique in another way - distance. Much longer than an Olympic triathlon but still shorter than an Ironman, this course, its profile and the additional weather challenge (the race is in the mountains after all so expect changeable conditions) make it a pure standout from start to finish.
The course distances for the long course race at the Alpe d'Huez tri are: swim 2.2km lake swim (it's glacial, which means it is fresh/freezing depending on your point of view), bike 118km (with 3,200 metres of vertical - there are two big climbs before you climb Alpe d'Huez itself), run 20km (on top of Alpe d'Huez).
So now your appetite's whetted, get stuck in and learn all about how to make your Alpe d'Huez triathlon experience a triumphant one using the links to our guide below. Allez!
