“We talked a bit about negative thoughts during an ultra. Sometimes you can ‘look’ for negativity - even when it’s not really there - in moments of hardship. But you need to look for positivity and ride that wave.

Run with positive energy so that when negativity comes your way in whatever form, you’re able to recognise it but stay in your positive space. One of my favourite moments in running are those times when you’re running along and simply feeling great. You’re like ‘oh man, I feel GREAT’. You’re thinking ‘I’m really taking care of my body and maximising this’.

But when you get to the start line of a race, trail running is about taking what you have and making the most of it. Maximise what you’ve got on that specific day.

You’ve got to be your own best cheerleader, your own best friend, your own ally…everything. If you ever really want to know yourself, do something hard. Whatever it is. We do trail running because we love it but if you really want to know what you’re truly made of, do something tough”.
